Mini EU Tour
I am writing this blog post on a Viennese evening. The sun is setting both on the day and also on our brilliant, albeit short, European tour! This rounds off the album launch shows… for now, and we have had a busy few days starting with a flight from Luton to Basel, Switzerland.
As anyone who has been following us for the last year might know, this has been our 3rd tour in Switzerland. Beginning with a brief luncheon and sojourn around a lake with a view of the mountains, we travelled to Sprängi in Fischenthal. The venue was furnished with motorbikes, classic sports cars, and a fine selection of beer. The show saw us play a raucous set to a self-confessed “reserved” Swiss crowd, although we found them to be up for a party and very happy to sing along! After a post-show beer and margarita, we made the long journey back to where we were staying, with our brilliant tour manager Sarah at the helm.
Day 2 of the Swiss leg started slightly slowly after a late return from the show, but the weather and the Swiss scenery delivered again, and we found ourselves enjoying sun and sorbet in the incredibly pleasant town of Thun! We happened to find ourselves there on one of the biggest football matches of the year, it would seem, and the locals had turned out in their polite and well-mannered hordes! Thankfully, there were still enough people to support the lovely venue we played later on in the evening, called The Country Music Hall of Fame! Sue and the team treated us like royalty, and we played to an intimate, engaged, and multinational audience. Whenever we play in different countries, we try and use as much of the local language as possible. Isi being a native German speaker is handy… I (Lewis) try my best to some avail, and we even threw in a bit of French for good measure! After two lengthy sets, two tasty beers, and two rounds of goodbyes to the lovely venue team, it was time for these two (three with Sarah the TM) to make their way home!
Day 3 involved a very early and bleary-eyed flight to Vienna, a mad race for a train we nearly missed, and then an early soundcheck at G5! We realised after we arrived at the venue that it was actually the very same venue we played our first ever show at in Vienna many (many) years ago. It was great to be back and to be sharing the stage with so many other great acts. The night was a success and the perfect way to round off the tour. Now we have a day to consume as much schnitzel, strudel, and Sachertorte as we can before heading back to London.
